Caregiving Report Released by Council on Social Work Education and American Journal of Nursing

A report entitled “State of the Science: Professional Partners Supporting Family Caregivers” was released jointly by the Council on Social Work Education’s Journal of Social Work Education (JSWE) and the American Journal of Nursing (AJN). This report examines how nurses and social workers can improve their knowledge and skills to better assist unpaid caregivers in their monumental responsibilities.

Apply for the Specialized Gerontology Program!

The Gero-Ed Center is now accepting applications for a new specialized gerontology funding opportunity for up to 20 BSW, MSW, or combined BSW/MSW programs*!

Visit the Specialized Gero Program page to download and review the Request for Proposals (RFP) and Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ), and for additional information.

Selected programs will receive up to $10,000 over two years (July 1, 2009-June 30, 2011), to develop competency-based aging-specific curriculum via the Specialized Gerontology (“Gero”) Program. The Specialized Gero Program provides faculty with the resources to develop, implement, and institutionalize gerontological competencies at the generalist and advanced levels of practice—as a minor, area of emphasis, certificate, specialization, or concentration.

(*In order to be considered for funding, programs must be accredited by CSWE and have gero content currently infused in foundation courses. Please see the RFP and FAQ for details.)
